The Top Fuel Story
I use three different types of select peppers in each of the three kinds of sauces: TOP FUEL RED, TOP FUEL GREEN and TOP FUEL YELLOW. The different peppers determine the color of the three different sauces and the different tastes. These three colors are also the colors of the lights on the drag racing "Christmas tree" but that was not the plan, it just happened that way. We also make other "short run" hot sauces and salsas from time to time as the different select peppers become available. However, if you are looking to impress your friends with "exceptionally hot" hot sauce (high Scoville Units), then TOP FUEL hot sauce may not be for you! The products we produce are targeted for taste and enjoyment and are all natural. We don't try to beat the Scoville rating for other hot sauces; to us taste is more important than heat level. TOP FUEL is a smooth blend that is enjoyable to the pallet, but it will not make you cry like a baby. NO CRY BABIES! TOP FUEL hot sauce is not crazy hot, all of our products are tasty hot. I worked on the recipes for over two years and discovered the right mix and process in 1996. I could not settle for just another hot sauce with a name like TOP FUEL. This sauce had to be bold but taste great and make you want more, after all, we are in the hot sauce and salsa business. After many different peppers and processes I slowly discovered the ingredients and by chance discovered a little know secret about the preparation of the product that makes TOP FUEL the very best. And I tried over 400 different ways to make the sauce and then one day..... bingo, the ingredients and the preparation process come together. As a crew member on a ¼ mile drag boat named "Hydro Therapy" owned by David Sharp out of Tucson, Arizona, I came up with the idea of selling my hot sauce over the internet. We were racing Davids pro gas hydro in Chandler, Arizona Firebird Raceway at the International Hot Boat Association (IHBA) World Finals in October 1998.
